Preference for Flexibility and Freedom of Choice in a Savage Framework

چکیده
This is the working-paper version of the published article, “Preference for Flexibility in a Savage Framework”, 1999, Econometrica 67, 121-146. The last three sections consist of additional material on the uniqueness of the representation (s. 5), interpretation in terms of freedom of choice (s. 6), and an alternative motivation for departing from the Savage framework based on “intra-agent incentivecompatibility”.

Human Honour and its Requirements from Quran’s Perspective
Human honour is one of the principal categories of the contemporary thought. After semantic analysis of human honour in the meaning system of holy Quran, the paper attempts to deal with the verses which are related to the results and requirements of human honour in Quranic discourse and also to achieve the mentioned requirements from the perspective of various verses about it. The Quranic sentence "There is no compulsion in religion" has been interpreted differently by commentators in different periods. Some has taken it as the permission for freedom of belief from the verse and some has considered it in conflict with the verses of fighting and apostasy. The distinction and diversity of the commentators' understanding of the verses of the Qur'an is related to the men...

Variations in these social factors—or the conditions in which we live our lives—have lead to a growth in health inequalities within and between countries. One of the key challenges facing those concerned with health equity is how to effect change across the b...
متن کاملFreedom as Control
I present a model of freedom as control. Control is measured by the preferences of a decision-maker, or judge, who values flexibility and is neutral towards outcomes ex ante. Formally, I explore the consequences of adding a neutrality axiom to the Dekel, Lipman and Rustichini (2001) axioms for preference for flexibility. I characterize the consensus of all neutral judges about which choice situ...
متن کاملAn additively separable representation in the Savage framework
This paper proposes necessary and sufficient conditions for an additively separable representation of preferences in the Savage framework (where the objects of choice are acts: measurable functions from an infinite set of states to a potentially finite set of consequences). A preference relation over acts is represented by the integral over the subset of the product of the state space and the c...
